Holly the Eco Warrior

“‘Dad, you must be joking.’ Holly’s mother said, ‘That tree’s very old, Holly. And your father can have his new office there. It’s perfect.’ You’re going to cut down my tree for a squpid office?' It’s just a stupid tree,’ Sophie added, not very helpfully. ‘That is not unfair!’ Holly said, jumping up. Then she walked to the door and said, ‘L’m leaving home!’ (ll. 9-15, p.20)

This is a story of an eco-friendly-girl, Holly, who tries to save an oak tree in her garden from being cut down by her father. Her strategy is living in the tree (house) with her dog, Eco, and to prevent her father from beginning to build an office instead of the tree. She keeps living there even though she is hungry. A brave protest of hers moves many people around her.
I respect Holly because it brave of her to start to protest for an oak tree by herself. And also, she influenced on many people, especially some of her friends. They joined her protest on hearing the news, and fight for the tree by bringing their tents. If I were one of Holly’s friends, I would also join the protest.

The Stolen White Elephant

""You know , in Siam the royal white elephant is very important. It is sacred to kings, and only kings can have a white elephant. And white elephants are more important than the king." ... After a misunderstanding between the countries the King of Siam decides to send the Queen of England a present. ...-then my problems begin. I get a phone call in the middle of the night: the white elephant is stolen!" (Quotation from pp. 11-12)

This is a detective story. A white elephant which is very respected as the royal in Siam(Thailand) is stolen when the deliverers stop to rest in NY because the elephant becomes weak.

The Kingdom of the Snow Leopard

'"Here is the Shining Star," said the King and the boy took a step forward.' (ll. 12-13, p. 68)

'"The Shining Star is the most precious thing on Earth," said the King calmly. "Do you really think the most precious thing on Earth is a diamond? Do you really think the most precious thing on Earth is money?"' (ll. 16-18, p. 68)

This story tells us what is the most important and precious thing on Earth. The Kingdom of Leopard is an imaginary country which has no Coca-Cola, no McDonald's, no TV and no the Internet. It is a big difference with almost all countries these days. So, this story gives us the opportunity to think what if we were in the world without these things which we tend to think necessary.
